「躺在床上」要怎麼說？
是 lie in bed 還是 lay on bed ?
有些單字，不止長得像、唸起來像，
就連意思都很接近！
碰到這些字時，連英文母語人士都會搞混
英文中到底還有哪些容易混淆的單字呢？

首先讓我們來看看幾個中文句子：
她躺在床上。
我把頭放在桌子上。
我放了一盆花在桌上。
這隻狗躺在我的腳邊。
以上這四個句子用 lie 或是 lay 要怎麼翻譯成英文呢？
當我們看到英文的 lie 和 lay 或許會覺得很容易混淆，但其實在中文中，「放」（lay）和「躺」（lie）有很明顯的區別。因此想要清楚分辨這兩個字，第一步能做的就是看中文的句意。
lie 躺 ; 臥
現在式 lie（現在進行式 lyingb>）
My dog likes to lie next to my feet when I’m sitting and working.
我的狗喜歡在我坐著辦公的時候躺在我的腳邊。
過去式 lay
Since today is Sunday, I woke up and lay in bed until 12 pm.
因為今天是星期天，我起床後一直躺在床上直到中午 12 點。
過去分詞 lain
Annie has lain in bed all day because she is sick.
Annie 因為生病所以已經躺在床上一整天了。
*補充： lie 還有另一個意思是「撒謊」。當 lie 作為這個意思的時候，它的動詞變化就是規則的。

lay 放；擱置
現在式 lay（現在進行式 layingb>）
I only slept for 2 hours last night. So if I can finish the exam earlier, I might lay my head on the table and rest for a bit.

過去式 laid
I bought some flowers this morning and laid them on the table for decoration.
我今天早上去買了花，並且把它們放在桌上作裝飾。
過去分詞 laid
I have laid some food on the dining table, so you can go grab something to eat if you’re hungry.
我放了一些食物在餐桌上，所以如果你餓的話可以去拿點東西吃。
這兩個字最容易搞混的部分在於 lie 的過去式和 lay 的現在式是一樣的。因為在這裡動詞的變化是不規則的，所以這一點就只能熟記！
想要清楚分辨 lie 和 lay 其實並不複雜，只要記住以下這一點：
lie：主詞 (I) + 動詞 (lie) in bed
lay：主詞 (I) + 動詞 (lay) + 受詞 (the flowers) on the table
